After Chelsea were drawn against Real Madrid in the Champions League quarter-final, our minds were almost immediately cast back to the last year’s face-off when the Blues convincingly defeated the Spanish side.
It was the first time the two clubs faced each other in the competition, but it was not the first occasion when Thomas Tuchel took on Real Madrid.
The German’s previous sides, Borussia Dortmund in 2016 and PSG in 2019, faced Real Madrid in the group stage.
Three of those four games ended 2-2, while the other was won by PSG 3-0.
It means that Tuchel’s record against Real Madrid is two wins, four draws and zero defeats in six games.
According to OptaFranz, no other coach has managed this many games against Real Madrid in the Champions League without suffering a single defeat.
