- Umtiti says he’s started avoiding social gatherings as he has been unhappy in the last couple of years.
- In his fight against chronic injuries, Samuel has become vegetarian and lost three kilograms.
“The recent years have been the worst of my career, so much so that I have started wanting to stay in my room and not mix with people,” Samuel Umtiti has told Canal+.
“Everyone who knows me knows that football is the source of my happiness. I went through a difficult phase, where I had to train twice as hard to get back to my original physical state.”
“I have become a vegetarian. I focus a lot on my diet. Restricting my diet has helped me lose 3 kilograms, which helped me recover from my knee injury.”
Umtiti suffered a knee injury during the 2018 World Cup and played through pain until the end of the tournament. When he returned to Barcelona, the club offered he undergoes surgery but the player oped for conservative treatment.
However, the treatment was a failure and Samuel struggles with chronic injuries to this day. Because of this, he has played only 33 matches across the last two seasons, losing his undisputed starting role.
