- Memphis is said to be Barcelona ‘priority’ target for the January transfer window.
- The Dutchman says that ‘everyone would like to play’ for the Catalans but he’s now focused on his performances for Lyon.
“I don’t know about Barca. The transfer market is not open. My mind isn’t on that,” Memphis Depay said after the Netherlands’ 1-1 draw with Spain on Wednesday, as quoted by Goal.
“I am trying to give my best, to play well in order to become a better player. There is a lot of speculation out there.
“Who wouldn’t like to play there? They are one of the best teams in the world. Everyone would like to play there, but I’m not thinking about that.”
Barcelona were eager to replace Luis Suarez with the Lyon forward in the summer transfer window but failed to raise funds for his signing.
As Ansu Fati is out for around four months with a knee injury, the Catalans have reportedly made the Dutchman their ‘priority’ target for January.
Even though the 26-year-old is out of contract next summer, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas recently ruled out Depay’s exit in midseason.
