The former Barca captain believes there’s not much more for Messi to achieve after all the records he has set.
Puyol says Leo is only missing a title with Argentina and he backs him to deliver.
“I don’t know if he has much more to achieve. He still has to win a title with the national team. I am not Argentine but I would be excited for him because I think he deserves it and I know he really wants to do it,” Carles Puyol told Goal when discussing Leo Messi’s latest achievements.
As we all know, Leo Messi beat Pele’s record for the most goals for a single club with his goal against Valladolid on Tuesday night. The Argentine has now scored 644 goals for Barcelona.
However, Messi hasn’t been that lucky with titles with Argentina. So far, Leo has taken part in 9 different World Cup and Copa America tournaments and failed to win any of them, losing in 3 finals.
Leo will have another chance for a silverware with Argentina at the Copa America next year and at the World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
