The president believes it’s unlikely for all parts of Spain to welcome the fans back at the same time, excluding Catalonia from the safest areas.
He also fears that the stadiums won’t be 100% full until the next season.
“As soon as the infection rate drops there are parts of Spain, such as the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands or Madrid where we could have fans back in the grounds,” La Liga president Javier Tebas said on fans’ return to the stadiums, as quoted by AS.
“The government wants it to be all of Spain at the same time, but we need to set it straight that it won’t be like that, it’s impossible.”
Tebas added some crucial details: “We want to start with 3,000 fans in the stadiums. That way the clubs can give something to the fans. By the end of January, we’d hope to be able to have more fans. We won’t see the grounds 100% full till next season.”
Barcelona have suffered the most from playing behind closed doors, registering a staggering €203m decrease in revenue.
Indeed, the coronavirus situation in Spain has been gradually improving: on Thursday, 12,289 new cases were registered, compared to the latest peak of 25,595 new cases on October 30.
