Before Pep won anything, he was scrutinised for poor transfers and faith in youth but also praised for positive signs.
Here’s what Barca fans wrote about him on BarcaForum back in 2008.
@Bardh: “The core players of Barca are such that they only need little guiding. The current Barca does not need regulation, it’s a capitalist ‘economy’. Just fixing of the details. Pep was the right puzzle piece to fill in and take care of the discipline, order, training, harmony and rotation. Everything else is taken care of itself. This generation comes ones in a lifetime.
“Too bad Frank [Rijkard] did not understand this a few years back and cooked two titles on the plate for Real Madrid when Barcelona could have made paramount history and surpass the Dream Team.”
@Barca_Ray_USA: “Pep is having such a success with little or no help from our ‘best’ signings (Caceres and Hleb). It`s basically the same team he inherited from Frank + Pique and Keita who aren’t even regular starters (ok Pique is close).
“Wonder what Txiki thinks of it. He spent 60 or 70 mil. only to see his signings aren`t instrumental at all.”
@Snyde: “Keita + Busquets have added a lot of steel into the midfield. We are lucky with respect to the injuries this season. And Henry has come in form as well.
“The few clear things that Pep is solely responsible for: 1. Harder training. 2. Much better discipline. 3. We are much much better at set pieces. 4. Tactically more sound. Better at countering the threat of opponents. 5. Better at counter-attacks. 6. He put Xavi in a more attacking role reducing his defensive duties which greatly enhanced his performances.
“To an extent, you may say that we are mentally much stronger as well. And our defence doesn’t leak (many) late goals ie. higher levels of concentration.”
@Iniesta: “Pep has far exceeded my expectations, hope he keeps up the great work. He has been the thing we have missed in the past two seasons, brings discipline and keeps the players grounded after these high wins.
“His Rotating of players is working quite well. But his faith in some of the B team he used to coach is still a bit silly IMHO. But in Pep we trust I say.”
