On Tuesday, the Carrington training ground was graced by the presence of Sir Alex Ferguson shortly after Cristiano Ronaldo arrived with his agent Jorge Mendes for talks over his future.
Now, a report by the Manchester Evening News claims that Sir Alex arrived for a ‘totally separate’ reason.
The former Manchester United gaffer is reportedly present for a board meeting that was scheduled months in advance and has nothing to do with Ronaldo.
The same reason is behind CEO Richard Arnold’s arrival, which makes it a tad suspect (could it be the return of the PR machinery?). Some outlets even claimed Bryan Robson was at the premises.
Given the role Sir Alex played in getting Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford last year, there was speculation that he’s back to convince the Portuguese to stay.
The 37-year-old, meanwhile, is set to meet Erik ten Hag and decide what he wants to do next. He hasn’t joined training with the rest of the squad so far.
