Luis Suarez returns to Camp Nou on Sunday afternoon as he is set to play against Barca as a part of Atletico Madrid’s squad.
And Xavi wants the former Catalans striker to get the recognition that he undoubtedly deserves.
“We are talking about the best centre-forward of the last 20-30 years, along with Eto’o,” the manager said.
“He must be received with honours. It is a pity that he could not leave with a great tribute.
“I hope the fans receive him with a standing ovation.”
Luis Suarez spent six years at Barca, scoring 198 goals in 283 appearances.
He left the club in the summer of 2020 as Koeman decided he didn’t need him. The Uruguayan joined Atletico and free transfer and scored a goal that sealed their La Liga win last season.
