- The Brazilian completed a shocking £8 million move on a deadline day.
- The 32-year-old admits he plotted his move ahead of joining our rivals.
- The defender wanted to leave even before the Gunners came with an offer.
- He hails Lampard for handling the situation maturely.
Speaking with the Telegraph, David Luiz opened up on his controversial deadline day move from London rivals Chelsea. As it turns out, there was nothing controversial at all. The deal made sense for all parties.
“I decided to leave Chelsea before there was contact with Arsenal. People do not know that but I decided early to leave Chelsea.
“After that, I had contact with Arsenal and I took a decision which everybody knows was not easy.
“Me and Lampard, we had honest conversations. Man to man, me and him. His ideas of football were different to mine.
“We just agreed: ‘OK, we move on’. In an honest way, in a mature way. We played together, we won together. We won the Champions League, the Europa League, everything together. It was done in a mature way.”
David Luiz left Chelsea after 7 campaigns at Stamford Bridge, divided into two spells by a two-season PSG stint.
The Brazilian played 248 games in the Blue shirt, scoring 18 goals. The centre-back won 7 major trophies with the club and was the last member of the squad which won the 2011/12 Champions League.
