Today, searching for “AI porn generators” improve dozens of free hits. Though imperfect, some of the photographs may pass for professional work.
AI-generated porn grows with generators AI. It’s improve, too.
Nearly a year ago, TechCrunch explored AI porn generator apps, which were rare. The results were not good.
Apps and AI models struggled to understand anatomy, resulting in odd subjects that would fit in a Cronenberg film. The synthetic porn featured startling physical contortions like additional limbs and nose nipples.
Ethical issues have grown.
Not simple.
AI porn generators improve and its tools become commodified, their real-world effects are alarming.
Brandon Ewing, known online as Atrioc, was caught on stream looking at nonconsensual deepfaked sexual photographs of famous Twitch women streamers. After pressure, the deepfaked image developer deleted them. The damage was done. DMs of the photographs continue to harass the targeted artists.
Most online pornographic deepfakes include women, and many are weaponized.
A Washington Post article describes how a small-town school teacher lost her job after parents discovered AI porn built in her likeness without her authorization. A 22-year-old was sentenced to six months in prison last month for utilizing young women’s social media images to make sexually explicit deepfakes.
AI porn generators improve as dark web has seen a tiny but significant increase in photorealistic AI-generated child sexual assault material. Fox News claimed that a member of an online gym enthusiast club blackmailed a 15-year-old boy by using generative AI to modify a photo of his bare chest into a nude.
AI porn generators improve it’s models have sold graphic photographs of non-existent persons to Reddit subscribers. Adult film and art employees are worried about their futures.
Unstable Diffusion, a pioneer in AI porn generators, improve.
Unstable Diffusion
Stability AI’s text-to-image AI model, Stable Diffusion, was open-sourced late last year, and the internet quickly used it to make erotica. Unstable Diffusion expanded swiftly on Reddit, then Discord. The group’s organizers eventually explored ways to construct and commercialize porn-generating models using Stable Diffusion.
Stable Diffusion, like all text-to-image AI systems, was trained on billions of captioned images to learn the associations between written concepts and images, such as how “bird” can mean bluebirds, parakeets, bald eagles, and more abstract concepts.
Adult content is scarce in Stable Diffusion’s dataset. Unstable Diffusion’s admins solicited volunteers—mostly Discord server members—to develop porn datasets to fine-tune Stable Diffusion.
Unstable Diffusion launched a website with custom art-generating AI models despite Kickstarter and Patreon limitations. Unstable Diffusion created a platform that it claims is utilized by over 350,000 individuals to generate over half a million images daily after funding over $26,000 from donations, acquiring hardware to train generative AI, and producing a dataset of over 30 million photographs.
Unstable Diffusion and Equilibrium AI co-founder Arman Chaudhry claims the group’s goal is to create a platform for AI art that “upholds the freedom of expression.”
“We’re making strides in launching our website and premium services, offering an art platform that’s more than just a tool—it’s a space for creativity to thrive without undue constraints,” he told me via email. “Art, in all its forms, should be uncensored, and this philosophy guides our approach to AI tools and their use.”
The community shares much of Unstable Diffusion’s generative art on Discord, reflecting this no-holds-barred mindset.
The server’s image-sharing section has two main categories, “SFW” and “NSFW,” with the latter having slightly more subcategories. SFW features animals, food, interiors, cities, and landscapes. NSFW contains explicit photographs of males, women, nonbinary persons, furries, “nonhumans,” and “synthetic horrors” (people with many appendages or skin fused with the underlying scenery).
The “synthetic horrors” channel covered most of Unstable Diffusion when we last visited. Late 2022 models struggled to generate photorealism or even good art because to a paucity of training data and technical issues.
Photorealism is difficult. Now, Unstable Diffusion’s anime-style, cell-shaded, and other model artwork is at least physiologically convincing and sometimes spot-on.
Enhancing quality
The Unstable Diffusion Discord server has photos from a variety of tools, models, and platforms. I created several SFW and NSFW photographs of people of various genders, races, and ethnicities engaging in coitus to test the Unstable Diffusion models.
(I never anticipated to test porn generators while covering AI. The IT business is truly unpredictable.)
The Unstable Diffusion software is simple, with options to change image post-processing features including saturation, aspect ratio, and image production speed. Unstable Diffusion lets you exclude objects from photographs in addition to the prompt. As a business, there are premium options that expand the amount of simultaneous image generating requests.
I discovered that Unstable Diffusion website prompts offer useful but unpredictable findings. The models’ weird facial expressions, difficult poses, and unnatural genitalia show they don’t comprehend sex. Solo pin-ups work best. Most group moments are nightmare-inducing. (Yes, this writer tried many prompts. Don’t judge me.)
However, the models exhibit generative AI bias.
Unstable Diffusion prompts for “men” and “women” usually produce images of white or Asian people, indicating imbalances in the training dataset. Inexplicably, most gay porn cues feature LatinX people with undercut hair. Does that reflect the models’ homosexual porn training? It’s possible.
By default, body kinds aren’t diverse. Muscular men have six-packs. Thin, curvaceous women. Unstable Diffusion can generate topics of various sizes, but it must be specifically asked to do so in the prompt, which isn’t the most inclusive practice.
Curiously, professional gender roles show different biases. Unstable Diffusion typically portrays an Asian lady in a submissive position when given the word “secretary” and no other descriptors, possibly because to an over-representation of this arrangement in the training data.
Putting bias aside, Unstable Diffusion’s technical advances would seem to encourage AI-generated porn. Surprisingly, it’s not.
Unstable Diffusion creators are committed to generative AI without constraints, but they want to use more mass-market-friendly messaging and branding. The five-person full-time team is attempting to turn Unstable Diffusion into a software-as-a-service business by selling web app subscriptions to fund product improvements and customer support.
“We have a very supportive user community. We know that strategic collaborations and further resources are needed to advance Unstable Diffusion,” Chaudhry remarked. “We want to provide value to our subscribers while keeping our platform accessible to those just starting in AI art.”
Unstable Diffusion emphasizes customisation to differentiate oneself beyond liberal content. Chaudhry says users can adjust the color palette of created graphics and choose from “digital art,” “photo,” “anime,” and “generalist” art styles.
Chaudhry stated, “We’ve focused on ensuring that our system can generate beautiful and aesthetically pleasing images from the simplest of prompts, making our platform accessible to both novices and experienced users. Our solution lets users control image production.
Content moderation
Unstable Diffusion says it invested much on a “robust” content moderation system to attract mainstream investors and customers.
But wait—isn’t content moderation against Unstable Diffusion’s mission? Evidently not. Unstable Diffusion prohibits pornographic deepfakes of celebrities and porn with characters under 18 years old, fictional or not.
For instance, several U.S. states have legislation banning deepfake porn, and at least one congressional attempt seeks to outlaw distributing nonconsensual AI-generated porn.
Unstable Diffusion’s moderation system blocks terms and phrases and uses an AI model to automatically eliminate photographs that violate its regulations. Chaudhry said Unstable Diffusion is seeking user feedback to “find the right balance” for its “highly sensitive” filters.
Chaudhry said, “We prioritize user safety and are committed to making our platform a space where creativity can thrive without concerns of inappropriate content. We strive to create a safe and secure platform for our users.
Deepfake filters seem lax. Unstable Diffusion produced nudes of various celebrities, including Chris Hemsworth and Donald Trump (who was gender-swapped).
Unstable Diffusion’s clear kid imagery safeguards were odd and worrisome. I performed a single prompt to test the team’s claims.
In a fuzzy preview, Unstable Diffusion generated child porn. I removed the image. I found that design choice uncomfortable.
Future issues
Given its huge membership, Unstable Diffusion expects to improve computational infrastructure if it gets the money it wants. (Having used the site a lot, I can attest to the tremendous load—images normally take approximately a minute to render.) It also wants to build more customizing choices and social sharing tools via the Discord server.

Chaudhry stated, “We aim to transition our engaged and interactive community from our Discord to our website, encouraging users to share, collaborate and learn from each other. “Our community is a core strength—one that we plan to integrate with our service and provide tools to expand and succeed.”
Unstable Diffusion’s “success” is unclear to me. The organization seeks respect as a generative art platform. The Discord server shows that it’s still a source of erotica, some of it disturbing.
The platform precludes VC funding. Vice clauses force institutional funds to invest in “sidecar” funds put up by fund managers.
Even without pornographic content, Unstable Diffusion, which requires users to pay for a premium plan to use their photographs commercially, would have to address the elephant in the generative AI room: artist consent and compensation. Unstable Diffusions models, like other generative AI art models, are trained on web art without the creator’s knowledge. Artists have sued AI systems that copy their styles without credit or payment.
FurAffinity and Newgrounds, which filters mature material, banned AI-generated SFW and NSWF art. Reddit recently lifted its restriction on AI-generated porn, but only for art featuring imaginary characters.
Chaudhry told TechCrunch that Unstable Diffusion will make its models “more equitable toward the artistic community,” but I haven’t seen any progress.

Like AI-generated porn ethics, Unstable Diffusion’s predicament is unlikely to fix soon. The group looks destined to bootstrap while avoiding controversy and alienating the people and artists that built it.
