Alexa, one of the world’s most popular go-to sources for digital content research, will be retired on May 1, the company has said.
Founded 25 years ago by Brewster Kahle and Bruce Gilliat, the Internet tracking website, is one of the most trusted sources of website ranking, content, and keyword research.
The website offers global rankings, web traffic data, and other important information on over 30 million websites.
Alexa journey started on April 1, 1996, but was acquired by Amazon in 1999 for about $250 million.
“After two decades of helping you find, reach, and convert your digital audience, we’ve made the difficult decision to retire Alexa.com on May 1, 2022,” Alexa said in a statement on its website. “Thank you for making us your go-to resource for content research, competitive analysis, keyword research, and so much more.”
The company first announced it was closing shop on December 8, 2021. As of December 8, it was no longer possible for new subscribers to create accounts. Subscriptions were also discontinued but subscribers are allowed to export their data.
However, the company said its Top Sites and Web Information Service APIs will still be active until December 15, 2022.
