Munich, Berlin, and Dusseldorf will see the first 300 vans in the coming weeks. According to Amazon, it has hundreds of electric vans across Europe, including over 1,000 in Germany. Last year, Amazon invested over €1 billion to electrify its European transportation network.
Rocco Bräuniger, Amazon’s national manager, said, “Amazon is committed to reaching net-zero carbon by 2040, and reducing our delivery-related emissions is a critical part of this goal.” “We delivered more than 45 million packages in Germany with electric vans and e-cargo bikes last year, and these new additions from Rivian will help us deliver packages more sustainably and to more customers.”
Last summer, Amazon began using Rivian vehicles to deliver packages in over 500 U.S. regions. Rivian has promised 100,000 vans by 2030 to the corporation.

Rivian supplies first electric-vans as it’s first delivery in Europe comes many months after the EV startup and Mercedes-Benz halted their ambitions to jointly construct electric commercial vans there. At the time, Rivian stated it needed to focus on its consumer vehicle business, selling the R1T truck and R1S SUV, and its commercial partnership with Amazon.
Rivian apparently began talks with Amazon in March to lift its exclusive contract so it could explore other commercial customers. TechCrunch received no updates from the carmaker.
