A strong earthquake has hit the Philippines.
The M 6.8 quake struck the island of Mindanao around 2.12pm on Sunday (local time, 7.12pm NZT). It was centred about 60km southwest of the city of Davao.
The powerful quake occurred at a depth of 28.2km, according to USGS.

There was no tsunami threat from the earthquake, which was initially measured at M6.9.
Videos taken during the earthquake were quickly shared on social media, though Reuters reported there were no initial reports of damage.
Quakes of this strength are capable of damaging buildings.
